More:
This original oil painting is one in 24 (thus far) of Roxy's Cotswold Collection. The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding beauty in England. This cluster of villages hosts an array of medieval cottages built with local stone which gives them a golden sheen. Roxy was so enamored with them that she painted an entire collection from her travels. She first read of the area in the late M. C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin series which is now a television series. Roxy first went in Winter (December 2012) and a couple of years later in late Summer. The first 12 in the collection were completed in Oil on Arches Oil Paper and took five years to paint. They were featured in Roxy's Solo Exhibit at the Porto Vista Hotel in San Diego. She has since been several times since and added to them. Her travels prompted her to learn painting in Watercolor so that she could paint on location while abroad.
This particular painting is from an area called "Lower Slaughter." There is Upper and Lower Slaughter, and this the Old Mill which now hosts a gift shop. In each painting in the collection, Roxy focuses on one aspect of the scene: in this case, the misty winter weather against the architecture so common in the small villages. She loves old buildings and waterwheels. The tree was leafless on her first trip. Later, she went back in summer to find it full of bright green leave.
The Cotswold Collection is Roxy's prized possession. She takes great pride in the completion of the series.
