More:

This original oil painting is one in 28 (thus far) of Roxy's Cotswold Collection. The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding beauty in England. This cluster of villages hosts an array of medieval cottages built with local stone which gives them a golden sheen. Roxy was so enamored with them that she painted an entire collection from her travels. She first read of the area in the late M. C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin series which is now a television series. Roxy first went in Winter (December 2012) and a couple of years later in late Summer. The first 12 in the collection were completed in Oil on Arches Oil Paper and took five years to paint.  They were featured in Roxy's Solo Exhibit at the Porto Vista Hotel in San Diego.  She has since been several times since and added to them.  Her travels prompted her to learn painting in Watercolor so that she could paint on location while abroad.

This particular painting is from an area called "Lower Slaughter." There is Upper and Lower Slaughter, and this is the road that leads to a local Inn. There is a smaller painting of the same road depicting the view when one turns right after crossing the small bridge, simply titled, "Lower Slaughter."  They are completed in the same style and meant to be hung near each other on a wall.  In each painting in the collection, Roxy focuses on one aspect of the scene: in this case, the misty winter weather against the architecture so common in the small villages. She felt the effect was eerie and magical, and the reason so many popular shows are filmed in the area.  (Downton Abbey, Midsomer Murder...)

The Cotswold Collection is Roxy's prized possession. She takes great pride in the completion of the series.
