This original oil painting is one in 24 (thus far) of Roxy's Cotswold Collection. The Cotswolds is an area of outstanding beauty in England. This cluster of villages hosts an array of medieval cottages built with local stone which gives them a golden sheen. Roxy was so enamored with them that she painted an entire collection from her travels. She first read of the area in the late M. C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin series which is now a television series. Roxy first went in Winter (December 2012) and a couple of years later in late Summer. The first 12 in the collection were completed in Oil on Arches Oil Paper and took five years to paint.  They were featured in Roxy's Solo Exhibit at the Porto Vista Hotel in San Diego.  She has since been several times and added to them.  Her travels prompted her to learn painting in Watercolor so that she could paint on location while abroad.

This particular painting is a famous road in Bibury.  While traveling, Roxy was taking photos and once home, forgot where they were taken. The painting was originally mis-named "Bourton on the Water", another village where she stayed.   In each painting in the collection, Roxy focused on one aspect of the scene: in this case, the asymmetrical alignment of the cottages.  The wonder of placement in the architecture astonished her.  How did they build them? Everything seems plain in America in comparison.  The lighting suggested a blue hue in the shades and although she originally intended to put in more detail and foliage, decided she liked it just as it was and stopped painting. She felt it communicated her thoughts precisely. It is merely an impression of Arlington Row at a glance and has become one of her most popular prints; often purchased along with Castle Combe, The Old Mill and The Lower Slaughter Country Inn.

The Cotswold Collection is Roxy's prized possession. She takes great pride in the completion of the series.
